Weddingness

Joel and I are relaxing in our apartment at the moment, knowing that today is going to be a blitz of editing photos and cleaning like crazy. Alan is getting married this weekend, which means that all sorts of family that have never been to our humble little abode will be flocking to our place in droves, several friends will be crashing here, and it's going to be plain insanity from this point on. Not that I am dreading it, of course, I'm excited to see people we love that we don't get to see often, but it'll definitely be a hilarious chaos.

Things have been pretty great lately, all things said and done. Life is getting better and better, and I'm glad of it. It's not all smiles and roses, but we're coming out of a period of financial gloom and business-related chaos that I'm glad to be over and done with. I don't want my life to be comfortable indifference by any means, but I at least want finances and business things to run smoothly so that I feel like I have the sanity to love my friends and family well and serve them selflessly without being bogged down by other things in life. I haven't done a very good job of it this year... mostly because of settling into this new midwestern life, starting my business here and figuring out how to live without worry of tomorrow. Of course, then I hear the old parent voice inside my head saying, "Of course life is hard! It's how you love others and the attitude you have when hard things happen. If the test of your character was how to handle life and love others while everything was easy, it wouldn't be saying much about your character, would it?" Reluctantly, I have to say it's true. I suppose I should ask for more toughness in life so that my character can be more refined, my faith more solid. In the meantime, I'm just glad to feel more and more free... more and more excited about life and what's to come.

(as an abrupt change in subject...) At the moment I can't help but look over at Joel sitting at the kitchen table in his amazing new Clark Kent-style glasses. I married a complete hunk, folks.

Adieu.
